This guide addresses the growing problem of the damage caused by bark and wood-boring insects in the forests of Europe and Central Asia, highlighting the expanding threats from both native and non-native species. The guide aims to equip forest practitioners and researchers with the tools and knowledge needed to detect and monitor these harmful insects early, supporting more effective management and protection of forest resources. The guide, developed from the 2022 meeting of the Forest Invasive Species Network for Europe and Central Asia (REUFIS), includes six chapters covering general insect monitoring techniques and detailed information on key insect groups such as jewel beetles, longhorn beetles, bark and ambrosia beetles, wood wasps, and other invasive organisms. Each chapter provides insights into the biology, distribution, and monitoring of these species, empowering practitioners to gather critical data for informed, evidence-based decision-making in forest management.
